Connecting the Heart

I use this heart meditation for times when I’ve become overwhelmed, or lose my sense of centre. It is also useful during or after times when there has been conflict, which sometimes feels like there is a left-over of non-resolution, or that I am still in adrenal fight or flight after a stressful or busy time.

It can also be useful if there has been a recent shock after a period of stress, which can create an energetic block between the Kidney energy and the Heart energy.

Step 1: Find a comfortable seated position, with your spine tall and your hands resting gently on your chest and belly.

Step 2: Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, allowing your body to relax with each exhale.

Step 3: Bring your awareness to the center of your chest, the location of your heart chakra. Visualize a radiant sphere of light glowing softly within.

Step 4: With each inhale, imagine this light growing brighter and expanding, filling your entire chest cavity with warmth and love.

Step 5: Place your other hand on your belly, just below the belly button, and visualize another sphere of light residing here.

Step 6: With each in-breath, imagine the sphere of light growing and warming gently.

Step 7: Envision a pillar of light connecting these two energy centres, allowing the light from your heart to flow freely down to your belly, and vice versa.

Step 8: Breathe into this pillar of light while it grows in brightness and warmth.

Step 9: Repeat the affirmation silently or aloud: "Hello my Heart, I will always listen to you first."

When it feels right, release the contact with your chest and belly, and slowly bring your hands to your lap. Open your eyes, and take a few moments to come back into your space.

It can sometimes be useful to spend some time writing after a meditation, taking a few moments to reflect on any sensations, emotions, or insights that came up.

Consider writing about your experience connecting with your heart energy and any guidance you received.
